RECREATIONAL KARATE PROGRAM
This is a program for adults, teens and children.
When a person first enters karate they are developing fundamental karate skills and learning to work as an individual or in a team environment. Adults and parent's expectations should be based on their child having fun, developing skills and wanting to continue training. With increased skills comes success, which leads to an increased desire to continue training and greater self-satisfaction on effort. When karate skills have been reached and improved to a point where the child demonstrates consistency in play, and has the appropriate age and desire to move towards competitive they are ready. Being ready to raise their level of involvement suggests that they have acquired the necessary training, skill prerequisites according to their levels, social / emotional confidence and cognitive understanding of what is involved towards competitive level.
The Karate-able program was developed after recognizing the need to create awareness for individualswith specail abilities who may be interested in pursuing karate. The program aims to include individuals with motor, cognitive sensorial and mild behavioral challenges in the practice of traditional Karate-do.
COMPETITIVE KARATE PROGRAM
This side of training requires more commitment and dedication as well as provincial, national and international travel. This side of karate allows athletes to perform and train in a higher / competitive level aiming for a spot in the Provincial and eventually the National team. The minimum age to be considered to be part of Team Canada is 12 years old but eliminations starts at the age of 11 at Provincial qualifications.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Our after school program offers a variety of exercises, techniques and drills where the student can develop and improve his/her social, motor and coordination skills. Self-defense, attention, concentration, discipline and social interactions are all part of their daily training in a small class setting. After students have change into their karate uniforms, our class begins and ends with a bow to the Sensei(s) followed by a warm-up, students practice karate’s particular skills, which may include different kinds of kicks, punches and blocks. Each activity requires concentration and strict attention. Breaks are permitted as needed. The student's progress is often marked by the belt system, which takes the beginner from a white belt through a variety of colors until black. Testing for each new level depends on effort, dedication, participation and readiness and it is a good exercise in setting and achieving goals.
This program runs at our Springbank Dojo from Mondays to Thursdays starting at 2:30pm for pick up time. Call for more information: 403-807-1425
